A Note from Jessica

12/4/2006

As Jamie posted last week, Brian had a bit of a set-back a few weeks ago. I can’t go into too much detail- but I can say he had a cardiac arrest. His heart stopped and he was not breathing for a short period of time. We’re told there was no more long-term damage caused by his arrest. However, his brain re-swelled and he went back in to a coma as well as having some seizure activity. He was back in ICU for a little over a week.

Now he is on the 7th floor in room #768. He hasn’t been running a fever as often as before and the swelling in his brain has finally begun to go down. He has not been very responsive since the episode- but last night and again today he attempted to squeeze my hand when I asked him to. Yay! That is the first response we’ve gotten in several weeks and I am very encouraged by that. I think as the swelling continues to go and stay down he will be able to fight his way back to us.

Thank you all so much for all your comments and words of encouragement. I am so thankful to know I have so many peoples support, prayers, and good thoughts.

Jamie, Thank you so much for all you’ve done for us. I wouldn’t be as “sane” as I am today if it weren’t for you and all your help, support, emails, flowers, Livi time, pasta, and so much more……. I love you and thank you!

If you’d like to visit Brian, visiting hours are M-F 12-8pm. But you can go anytime you’d like as long as you are quiet and respectful of the patients around you. We’d like to have as many people visit him as possible. Now that he seems to be coming out of it, the more voices, music, stimulation, etc around him, the better. Talk to him, tell him stories or tell him jokes….whatever you want. I believe if he knew how many people were behind him, he will work even harder to come back.

Olivia really misses her daddy.

Please continue to keep Brian in your prayers.

Thank you,

Jessica

Dear Jessica,

Yesterday morning in church we were singing 'God rest ye merry gentlemen' a Christmas carol I often have ignored and put aside over the years. This year, this morning, this moment in time it meant more than any words have. I think about you, Brian, and Livi constantly and I pray today that God would grant your heart rest. Not just physical rest but that he would allow you to rest in hope... and above all for God to bring you "tidings of comfort and joy."

Always in my prayers,
Whitney

Prayer for All Who Are Abused

You chose, O loving God, To enter this world Quietly, humbly, and as an outcast. Hear our prayers On behalf of all who are abused: For children, Who suffer at the hands Of parents whom they trust and love; For spouses, Beaten and destroyed By the very one Who promised to love And to cherish them forever; For all people Ignored, hated and cheated. By the very neighbor Who could be the closest one To offer your love.

Hear the cry of the oppressed. Let the fire of your Spirit fill their hearts With the power of vision, and hope. Grant to them empowerment to act, That they may not be passive victims Of violence and hatred. Fulfill for them the promises you have made, That their lives may be transformed And their oppression ended. Turn the hearts of the oppressor unto you That their living may be changed By your forgiving love; And their abusive actions And oppressive ways brought to an end.

Stop the hurting, pain and sicknesses caused by the evil one so that all may know Your Love and Strength and Power and Glory! Heal the sick and opressed oh Lord of Lord, King of Kings and Saviour of all of us. You are our one true God, hear our prayers to Heal and Save Brian, who is Your servant.

Amen.
